Warrior Woman Story Introduction
He stands on the parapet, the stone warm against his hands as he gazes down at the people assembled below. The gathered masses do not return his gaze, however. Instead, their eyes are fixed in the opposite direction. Like him, they wait for the opening of the heavy wooden doors across the cobbled courtyard. It has been three days since the battle. What had been expected to be a quick skirmish had proved to be one of the costliest of the war thus far. His losses had been staggering, but in the end they had prevailed. And word came last night that the prize of the conquest would be arriving this morning.
